African Wild Dogs are amazingly cool animals: for a start, they’re one of the very few animals who will feed and look after a sick or injured pack member.  Their beautiful, unique markings give them their other name: Painted Dogs.

They are the most endangered of Africa’s large predators.  It is estimated that only between 3,000 – 5,500 free-ranging African Wild Dogs are left (source: IUCN).

The African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus) is on the IUCN Red List for Threatened Species as  “endangered”. Population trend: decreasing
